Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and Root Planing (sometimes referred to as a “deep cleaning”) is a process through which the technician removes build-up beneath the gums. This cleaning sometimes requires the use of local anesthesia (numbing) in order to limit discomfort to the patient.

How Scaling and Root Planing Works

By removing accumulation beneath the gums, it allows the tissue to heal and decreases inflammation, thus reducing the pockets and halting the progression of periodontal disease.
